The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (“NSIA” or “The Authority”), manager of Nigeria’s sovereign wealth fund, has won the 2016 Africa Investor (Ai) award for Sovereign Wealth Fund Infrastructure Investment Initiative. The award was received by the Authority at 9th Africa investor (Ai) CEO Infrastructure and Sovereign Investment Summit and Awards held in Johannesburg, South Africa on the 10th of May, 2016. This is the second time in 3 years that the NSIA would be so honoured by the Ai having emerged as a category winner for SWF Initiative in 2013.
Reacting to the Awards, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Uche Orji said, “The Authority remains committed to key infrastructure projects that provide much needed impetus to key sectors of the Nigerian economy. We consistently seek for new ways to strengthen current practices in the design and development of infrastructure projects in Nigeria with a view to enhancing governance, attracting top investors, and enabling timely closure. Our investments are therefore not wholly driven by commercial returns but also by the passion to contribute to Nigeria’s quest to bolster its infrastructure stock, grow its economy, and provide prosperity for all Nigerians. We thank the organizers and are delighted with the outcome of the awards” Mr. Orji concluded.
On the 27th of August 2013, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) was shortlisted for the Africa investor’s African Sovereign Wealth Fund Initiative of the Year. Other African SWF’s to make the shortlist included Revenue Regulation Fund, Algeria; Libyan Investment Authority; Pula Fund, Botswana; Fundo Soberano de Angola;
Sovereign Fund of the Gabonese Republic; Mauritania National Fund for Hydrocarbon Reserves and Equatorial Guinea Fund for Future Generations.
The award ceremony held on the 10th of October in Washington DC, where the NSIA received this prestigious accolade.
