He started his career at Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), an internationally renowned firm of professional accountants and rose to become Senior Accountant. Following his short stint at the firm, he joined NAL Merchant Bank Nig. Plc in 1983, as an Assistant Manager and rose to become an Area Manager, Northern Area. Subsequently, he became the Head of the Capital Markets at NAL Merchant Bank (now a member of the Sterling Bank Group) where he led the structuring of several listings and big-ticket transactions for the bank.
He left the bank in 1993 and founded Babatunde Sobamowo & Co. a Tax, Management Consulting and Audit practice as its pioneer Principal Managing Partner. Following this, he set up Global Asset Management (Nig) Ltd in 1996. Apart from founding and leading these respected organizations, Sir. Sobamowo has had the privilege of serving on various Boards within and outside the financial services industry.
Sir. Sobamowo has been a dealing member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange since May 1993. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA); Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (FCS); Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation; an Associate of the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria and a member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria. He is a 1978 graduate of the prestigious University of Lagos, where he studied Economics.
